We love Begur because it is a proper town - not just a resort. It's special for a break at any time of year,
and of course that's especially true in the summer months when the area offers everything that discerning
visitors and families could wish for.
A holiday destination of real distinction, without package operators and with the main holiday accommodation
in the area privately owned for generations, Begur has history, life, luxury, tranquillity and pleasure.
The area we cover, watched over by the [xth] century Begur castle, is a mere ten kilometres from north to south,
but with mile upon mile of interest as you cover the coast roads and paths between each lovely bay.
Come here at any time and sample the life of the most beautiful area of Catalonia - and if you don't want to
leave, we can help you with buying a home here too.
AIGUABLAVA
Perhaps the best known bay of the area in the UK, Aiguablava is made up of the beaches of Platja Fonda, the harbour of Fornells (with the exceptional Aiguablava Hotel and restaurant) and Aiguablava beach itself.
We are lucky enough to have properties both nestled in the hills of this area as well as properties on the coast. So whatever your preference we are sure to have something that will suit you.
There, people are so attracted that families have grown up together on the beach – it’s not unusual throughout the area to find people in the third generation of visitors, spreading the attraction by word of mouth – that’s how we first came here.
Always popular, never less than refined, the two restaurants on the beach of Aiguablava offer just the right refreshment during a day in the sun or sea. Swimming is safe in most places around the coast, and certainly a main attraction here. Boating is fun and fishing is possible in the rockpools, all in the kind of friendly and intimate atmosphere that you will love, whatever your age, family or preferences.
From the bay you can walk up to the spectacularly placed Parador, or drive for 5 minutes over to Tamariu, another jewel in the Catalonian coast.
AIGUAFREDA
Overlooked by Cap sa Sal, Aiguafreda is placed just off a safe but spectacular coast road between Sa Riera and Sa Tuna. Look carefully for the road sign off this coast road or you might miss Aiguafreda, which would be a pity as this tiny, Costa Brava cove has a very relaxed feel to it.
Small, undeveloped, uncommercial, it is a rather special, rocky cove attracting people who would like to do more with the bay than simply drink in its beauty.
Here you can choose to while away your days in a variety of different ways. If you're passionate about diving, you can dive straight from the beach, or take a boat excursion further into the Mediteranean. Don't be tied to diving though as snorkelling is safe too (as it is in all of these bays) and sealife is plentiful or kayaks can also be hired from the diving centre on an hourly basis.
If you'd rather spend your day less energetically, there is a beach bar where you can sample the local sea food and people watch, whether that be the divers , the snorkellers, the fishermen or the locals passing their long lunches with their families. There is also another restaurant with a welcoming terraced area for lunch and also evening meals.
As this cove is used mainly for diving and fishing, there is only a small beach, although there is a terraced area to sunbathe where you can swim lazily in easy reach of the shore......and the views out to sea really are stunning.
AROUND BEGUR
Within our sales department the choice of areas widens a little compared to our rental properties.
These sales properties are found a little further from Begur, both north to Estartit and south to Platja d'Aro along the Costa Brava coastline.
They also include properties for sale further inland in some of the historical towns of the Catalonia region including La Bisbal,Palafrugell and Regencos.
Enjoy looking at the choice of properties in this extra bracket. If you don't know where the property is email us and we'll guide you. We are sure you'll find something that suits you.
BEGUR
Begur is built on three hills, with the castle, the town and a residential area on each, all within an outcrop standing in the Mediterranean Sea and providing the perfect area to explore over and over again.
There are 5 bays around Begur, all with beaches and particular attractions, each surrounded by wooded hills hiding quiet roads and beautifully located private villas and homes.
The town itself has two main squares, lovely local bars and restaurants – places to sit and relax, many open all year. Concerts are frequent attractions and every summer there is regular traditional Catalan dancing – an attraction for the locals that provides a classic spectacle for you.
There are strong Catalan and local traditions, history, arts and crafts, mixed with exclusive shops in exceptional surroundings – and all 5 minutes from a beach.
The main beaches and bays are arranged from north to south...Pals, Sa Riera, Aiguafreda, Sa Tuna, Aiguablava.
CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL
This area is the final desination that we cover as you wind your way south along this beautiful stretch of the Costa Brava.
Calella's charm is not easy to describe and leaves no-one indifferent, so even if you don't stay here you must visit it. We feel that this fishing village gives you the best of both worlds as the proximity of the accommodation to the beach will allow you to enjoy a holiday without relying on your car. Both the sea and the many restaurants in the village can be accessed from most of our accommodation by foot.
The white washed buidings and narrow streets fit in well alongside the 3 major coves where you will find the water gently shelves... perfect for children to play and the adults among us to relax and unwind.
LLAFRANC
Llafranc is probably the region's most stately and simultaniously cosmopolitan beach town. It is very popular with the Spanish due to the perfect half moon curve of the bay where you will find good restaurants and beach side cafes.
To the east of the bay there is a small marina but the rest of the beach is designated to sunbathers and swimmers who can enjoy the gently shelving water and also the views of the Sant Sebastia mountain as its backdrop.
For the more energetic among you, enjoy the walk to the top of this mountain from where you can enjoy magnificent views across this wonderful bay.
Llafranc will not disappoint you!
PALS
Platja de Pals borrows it’s name from the “must visit” medieval town of Pals, about three miles inland. Platja de Pals is a much more modern creation of villas, golf clubs, bars, and shops.
It manages to keep its attraction as a leading family destination and has some lovely restaurants including one of the best respected in Catalonia, at the four star Hotel Sa Punta – very special indeed.
One of the main reasons for the popularity is the sheer size of the beach – this stretches for miles and is never going to get crowded. The sea slopes are shallow and you won’t lose sight of the children – even from the conveniently placed bars and restaurants that are around the southern end. One of the bays is a nudist beach – but the average naturist seems quite modest here so neither the children nor the horses should be too frightened!
You can get to Platja de Pals the easy but boring way – the inland road from Begur to Pals via Regencos and then out to the coast – or you can do it properly on the coast road that winds round – but you’ll probably stop off at some of the other places first!
RESIDENCIAL BEGUR
Residencial Begur is just on the edge of the town of Begur itself. Due to the nature of Begur's winding streets and it's situation on a hill, over the years many local Catalans have chosen to set up residence in the large forested area of Residencial Begur . So if it's mixing with the locals that really entices you to Begur, this is where you ought to stay.
It's excellent for families as many of the properties here have large fenced off grounds with pool and barbecue areas and it's still only approximately 3km from the beautiful beaches and coves the Begur area has to offer.
If it's a pool you prefer to relax by, Residencial Begur has it's own swimming pool complex, where for a small fee you can while away your days.
Slightly further south of Residencial Begur is the area of Casa de Camp, a similar, peaceful, relaxing place to spend a memorable holiday.
SA RIERA
Sa Riera as a lovely, small fishing village (it still is – watch for the lights across the bay at night) with some of the original houses still right by the sea.
Carefully, slowly grown over 60 years, there are no large buildings or developments, and most houses are individually designed and owned, arranged close to a large expanse of beach that rarely, if ever, becomes crowded.
Restaurants and bars are very much of the local variety – good simple food and drink and friendly service.
Many people come to Sa Riera and never go anywhere else – it offers them all they need from a holiday…and some of our rental properties offer a short, direct walk to the biggest swimming pool of all – the sea – and a choice of places to breakfast after that early morning swim.
Above the bay of Sa Riera, nestled in the hills, is the residential area of Es Valls. This area boasts spectacular sea views across the bay of Sa Riera.
SA TUNA
South along that lovely coast road, the bay of Sa Tuna must be one of the most beautiful in Europe. There is little to match a meal outside the Hostal Sa Tuna, right by the sea on a calm, warm evening.
Sa Tuna is an old fisherman's village and a real favourite of the Catalans, never too crowded but always lively enough, and with an atmosphere that easily makes you understand the history of the place – many of the people who live here have been in the bay for generations, calmly uninterrupted by the visitors.
Above Sa Tuna, the carefully developed areas of La Borna and Cap de Begur have stunning views of the bay, the coast and the sea.
Normally to travel to Sa Tuna from Begur you travel south along the main coast road. But, for the historians amongst you, if you are lucky enough to find the alternative windy road from Begur - Cap de Begur - La Borna finally arriving at Sa Tuna, you will be discovering a little bit more of Begur's history, as this was the old road which the fisherman would use to reach the bay.
TAMARIU
Further south along a winding coast Road you will come to the unspoilt fishing village of Tamariu. Yet another hidden picturesque resort along the Costa Brava coastline, Tamariu sits in a tranquil and secluded bay between the nearby towns of Palafrugel and Begur.
Originally a fishing village, the simple houses and pavement cafes surround a sheltered beach where fine white sand is lapped by gentle waves. Small cafes and bars serve local Catalan cuisine and the crystal clear water is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and sailing. Tamariu is perfect for those who want to experience the real beauty of this scenic region without having to use their car as everthing you could possibly wish for is on hand.
